Many Tennessee cities and towns have formed legally-constituted Tree Boards with the responsibility of overseeing or supporting the care of all trees on city- or town-owned property. These boards are made up of any number of citizens that represent the community at large. Tree Board members serve as volunteers dedicated to improving people’s lives through trees.
The mission of the Memphis Tree Board is to advocate for the health, safety, and sustainability of public trees and to raise awareness of the contributions trees make to our quality of life. Since 2014, Memphis has earned designation from the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA. The Tree Board holds eight public meetings annually on the third Thursday from 3-4:15pm.
